The novella contains numerous symbolic elements. It consists of 19 chapters, a number linked to the name of the virus COVID-19. Only the final chapter has no title, yet it is precisely there that the reader will find answers to all unanswered questions.
The protagonists are a young Armenian man and a young Italian woman; the events unfold across three countries — Armenia, China, and Italy. The novella has two central directions: personal relationships and the pandemic, and at times these parallel lines intersect.
Throughout the unfolding of the plot, the keys to the resolution are present; the reader simply needs to pay attention in order to foresee the ending. The book concludes with a quotation from the Portuguese writer José Saramago. To understand it, the reader must either know Portuguese or translate the sentence.
